Chainsaw motorbike

Can a chainsaw engine power a motorbike? Yes it can if you have 24 of them going spare, coming to a hardware shop nowhere near you… the Dolmar Dolmette.

  • 79cc cylinder 2 stroke engine from the PS-7900 professional chainsaw
  • Tuned to give 5.2 kW of power at 10,000 rpm with a maximum torque of 5.5 Nm at 7,750 rpm

Multiply that by 24 to give:

  • 1.9 litre displacement
  • Power output of 125 kW (170 PS)
  • 130 Nm of torque at the clutch

All this is hooked up to a 5 speed Harley Davidson transmission using a series of 12 belts. Click here for more tech information

What does this mean? It takes bloody ages to start 24 chainsaw engines…

And just to see it run (skip to the last minute of the video unless you can understand German)…

Leaves me thinking what else can you use to power a motorcycle? I’m going to go with a hamsters in a series of wheels…
